Philippe Hurel — “Trait d’union” for violin & cello

2020 changed our perception of society and of contemporary social ties, drawing attention to a previously hidden potential — that of full-scale remote presence.

Forced isolation stirred hidden processes, and allowed many to turn toward parts of life that had, for various reasons, been out of reach.

The concept of the work lies in exploring inner, liminal states — the manifestation of a person’s need for isolation, set against the opposite drive toward limitless expansion.

The video must be shot against a boundless horizontal surface merging into the sky — a narrow, isolated figure set against a vast open space.
